The Qld Lane Racing Association has been conducting Lane Racing competitions for the past 10 years as a series of 6 meetings per season. The Queensland Lane Racing Titles are normally held on the May long weekend each year.
A lane race team consists of a boat driver, observer, and skiers: at least 2 men and 1 women (all over 17 years), a junior (14-17yrs), a sub junior (0-13yrs). All events except the disc tow 2 skiers. Each boat has its own set of buoys 300 mtrs apart, there are usually 4 lanes. The start is a tight rope standing start with skiers in the water. The boats must not cross the starting line, nor can they be on the plane before the flag drops. The skiers are required to ski close to the wake, and do the required laps (2-5) continuously. The equipment used comprises of single skis with fins, double skis with fins, single ski finless, double skis finless, freeboard, plank, and disc. All meetings have an emergency buoyant stretcher on the bank and ambulance bearers in attendance, however very few injuries have occurred.
